Supporting Survivors of Violence (6)

Sometimes, we ask “Why didn’t she just leave?”. The reality is it can be much more complex than just up and leaving a violent situation.

Sometimes, there’s just nowhere to go. Family members and friends may not be ideal as they may just try to broker “peace” and “mend” the home. In situations that involve children and young people, people may be unwilling to take on responsibility and/or interfere.

One way we can support survivors of violence is to research and refer them to organisations that can provide support in form of shelters and safe homes. Having that option, however temporary, can make it a bit easier for young women to flee violent situations.
